EWU Eagle Eye Player of the Week for Week 3 2014-2015

Good morning Eagle Fans!  I've just returned from a week long trip on Navy Reserve orders, which included the celebration of my wife's birthday.  The trip was great, but now I've fallen behind on some posts and will try to catch up over the next couple days.

First thing is the week 3 EWU Eagle Eye Player of the Week.  Click through the break to read more.

I try not to select the same players for player of the week as the Big Sky Conference or other sources, mainly because they tend to focus exclusively on offense.

When I think about what a player of the week should be, I think of selfless play, shining in areas of weakness, stepping up in critical moments of big games as well as stuffing the stat line.

I also try not to pick the same player each week because I believe this is truly a team game and the statistical stars rely on the other guys to make their game count.  There are times however when a player just takes the choice out of my hands.  That is the case for week 3 and Venky Jois.

Venky led the Eagles with 52 points in two games, the next closest was Tyler Harvey who happens to be one of the leading scorers in the nation.  As I said above its not just about scoring a lot of points, it is about hitting 10 of 13 FT's in two games when coming into the game he had hit just 10 of 29 FT's.  Jois didn't stop at scoring either, he also added 13 rebounds, 8 blocks, 5 assists and 1 steal.  He was also called for just 1 personal foul. 8 blocks and 1 steal with just one personal foul, that is an impressive ratio.

Jois led the team in points (52), rebounds (13), and blocks (8).  He is also off to a great start for next week with 38 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals against Seattle U.
