EWU Eagle Eye Player of the Week Nominations Week 2 2014-2015

The second week of the season flew by, the Eagles took care of business hosting Walla Walla before hitting the road and losing to then 22nd ranked SMU before finishing with a big time win last night against Indiana at Assembly Hall.

With one close loss on the week and a dominating win against a lower division opponent, I think the players performances last night should be weighted just a bit.  With that in my continue after the break to see this week's nominees!

Venky Jois, three games, two double-doubles, and 97 minutes of court time.  The Junior Forward came up with a highlight block to let EWU retake the lead last night and pitched in critical points as the Eagles made their run to catch up late in the second half.  Over the three games he totaled 50 points, 29 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 steals and 6 blocks.

Tyler Harvey, three games and 96 minutes of court time.  The Junior Guard showed the nation last night why he is special as he seemingly willed the Eagles back into the game.  They were facing a 12 point deficit before Harvey nailed back to back 3's sparking an Eagle run that gave them their first lead of the game.  Over the three games he totaled 65 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block with only 3 turn overs.

Drew Brandon, last week's POW, It's nearly impossible to leave him off the nominations list for this week.  He played in two games, resting at home vs Walla Walla.  In the other two games he totaled 33 points, 15 rebounds, 9 assists, 6 steals and just 5 turnovers in 65 minutes of court time.  Beyond that, his 27 point performance last night included clutch points to give the Eagles their final lead and critical FT's to seal the win as well.

Parker Kelly, played 71 minutes in two games, he also did not play against Walla Walla.  Kelly scored 18 points on 5 of 11 from the field and critically 3 of 4 FT's to help close out the win last night.  In Coach Hayford's words, "I thought it was really fitting that Parker put the nail in the coffin with his three.  He's such a great person and the epitome of hard work.  He hit a big, big shot there."  Parker totaled 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and two blocks.  Sometimes the stats don't tell the story and that is true for Parker.  He played tough defense and took a big elbow to the face early in the second that left him with a pair of black eyes and what looked like a broken nose.
