The Eagles started the NCAA DI Season early, and slow.  They shot 34.5% from the field in the opening half including an 0-6 performance from Venky Jois, but led 32-30 at the half.

In the first half the Eagles were soft on defense and troubling on offense.  As Jonathan Reed, of bigskybball.com, put it:

The second half however was a different story as the Eagles shot 62.9% from the field and outscored the Tigers 54-32.

Eastern Washington tightened up on defense and cleaned up their offense committing just 5 second half turnovers and forcing 8.  The Eagles led at halftime and you could sum it up in two words:  Tyler Harvey.  The Junior Guard scored 15 points in the first half going 5-10 from beyond the arc and adding 2 rebounds and 1 assist.  He finished with 21 points on seven 3 pointers, adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

The second half could just as easily be summarized in two words:  Venky Jois.  After going 0-6 with 4 rebounds and 3 blocks in the first half, the Junior Forward scored 22 pts in the second adding 3 more rebounds and 1 steal.

Drew Brandon would have notched a triple double today if he hadn't been pulled with 7 minutes to go due to the blowout.  He finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks with just 1 turnover.

Junior transfer Kyle Reid grabbed 7 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.  Senior Guard Parker Kelly finished with 12 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.

The Eagles finished the game victorious and now sit atop the NCAA with a perfect record of 1-0 after beating Texas Southern 86-72.
