Early Season Rankings

The season is very young, but with Eastern off to its best start in 3 decades, I thought it would be fun to see how the Eagles rank.  First we'll go through the power rankings and a quick glance at team stats, then we'll dig into some individual rankings as well.

Power Rankings
There are several places to find power rankings on the Internet, since very few of them include Big Sky teams, we're pretty much limited to the all inclusive RPI and KenPom ratings as well as those sites which track Mid Major programs exclusively.

RPI - RPI is the Ratings Percentage Index and is part of what the NCAA tournament selection committee uses to choose at large teams.

53 -- Eastern leads all Big Sky schools in RPI and is currently ranked 53rd in the nation.  Weber State is second in the conference and 72nd in the nation.

119 -- Eastern is ranked 119th in the nation on the KenPom ratings which are explained better than I am able to right here, again Weber State is second in the conference at 172nd in the nation.

Receiving Votes -- Eastern is receiving votes this week to be ranked among the best Mid Major programs in the country on at least two polls.'s Mid Major Top 25 and's Mid Major Power 15.

Statistical Rankings
Stats alone don't mean a whole lot, but they can be indicative of a team's strengths and when a team is statistically strong in several categories it usually translates to wins.

7th -- Eastern is 7th in the nation in field goal % at 53.8

12th -- Eastern is 12th in the nation in blocks per game at 6.8

26th -- Eastern is 26th in points per game at 82.2

60th -- Eastern is 60th in assists per game at 15.3

98th -- Eastern is 98th in points allowed this season at 61.5

Individual Statistical Leaders
It's great to admire the individual accomplishments of the players on the team, especially when those accomplishments are helping the team win.  Further the following players are ranked in the top 100 in these categories, that means that out of more than 3000 DI players in the nation these players are producing at a level that puts them in the top 3%.

Tyler Harvey - 22nd in the nation in scoring, 9th in made field goals, and 2nd in made three point field goals.

Venky Jois - 56th in the nation in rebounds, 12th in made field goals, 43rd in field goal percentage and 37th in blocks.

Drew Brandon - 49th in the nation in steals and 55th in assists
