EWU Eagles 2012-2013 Outlook: Justin Crosgile (#5)

Justin Crosgile (craws-guy-uhl) is a 5'11" point guard from Paterson, NJ.  He comes to the Eagles via Saint Joseph's where he played in 45 games averaging 5.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in just under 19 minutes a game.  The ESPN Scouting report on Justin in 2008 says in part, "Crosgile is a scoring guard who must continue to improve his ability to run a team. He can break his man down off the dribble almost at will, however his decision making needs to improve since he is determined to get a shot up or generate an assist."

In talking with me, Coach Hayford specifically pointed out Justin as someone who could be "one of the premier point guards at the mid-major level" of basketball next season.  Coach Hayford stumbled across Crosgile while scouting for other players and northjersey.com has a great article covering the subject, "I told the coach I was looking for a point guard and he knew Justin was looking to transfer," said Hayford.

At the end of the day, we won't really know what Justin will bring for the Eagles next year, until we see it on the court.  We know from reports that he brings blazing fast speed and a willingness to shoot or pass to set up shots for his teammates.  And a player who was rated very highly coming out of high school and went to a program that was not a fit for him.

Coach Hayford and his staff will hopefully help him achieve that potential and looking ahead to next season its safe to assume Justin will get a shot to be the team's starting point guard.  I expect there to be some growing pains, not only for Crosgile, but for the whole team as they have lost four of their top contributors from the previous season including the majority of minutes at the 1, 4 and 5 spots on the floor.  Replacing Cliff Colimon, Laron Griffin and Cliff Ederaine is going to be a challenge, but on paper it looks like Justin Crogsile is going to play a big part in filling those gaps.
