Player Profile: Parker Kelly (#10)

Parker Kelly (#10) Freshman Guard, 6’4” 195lbs
Spokane, WA - Gonzaga Prep High School class of 2011

A walk-on freshman from the local community, Parker has seen his role with the Eagles increase over the second half of the season, notching a season high 34 minutes against Idaho State (February 23rd) and twice hitting a season high 17 points against Weber State (February 11th) and Idaho State (February 23rd).  During this stretch Kelly has played a key role from the bench hitting critical free throws (13 of 13) as well as provided a big boost from the outside, sinking 10 of 21 (47.6%) from 3 pt range in this stretch.  At times he looks a little lost on defense, but not from lack of effort his scrambling recovery of a jump ball and 8 points (including 2 of 4 from 3pt range) late against Montana State (January 28th) helped the Eagles pull away.

Perhaps the best game of his young career came against Northern Arizona on February 2nd during which Kelly went 3 of 6 from the field, including 1 of 3 from beyond the arc, and 4 of 4 from the free throw line to score 11 pts, but more importantly he calmly collected the final 8 points for the Eagles in a game they won by 6 points.  The final 4 minutes of that game saw Parker go 2 of 3 from the field (including 1 of 2 three pointers) and 4 of 4 from the free throw line.

Kelly put together another fantastic game against Idaho State (February 23rd). In a game that featured 55 called fouls the freshman guard gave the Eagles 34 minutes, 17 pts, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 turnovers and only 2 personal fouls.

Parker's game against Northern Arizona still stands as his best to date, but he scored a career high 17 points against Weber State going 5 of 8 from beyond the arc in a game in which the Eagles needed someone to step up in place of a mis-firing Collin Chiverton.

Parker was selected as the EWU Eagle Eye Player of the Week for February 7th to February 13th, 2012

From goeags.com, Coach Hayford on Kelly, “Parker had an outstanding senior season for the state championship Gonzaga Prep team. He is one of the strongest 6-foot-4, 195-pound players that you are going to find. His body is college-ready. He is a tremendous shooter and he loves the game. He wants to be good and has great basketball genes in the family. I think Parker has an outstanding career ahead of him.”
