Player Profile: Laron Griffin (#15)

Laron Griffin (#15) Senior Forward, 6’8” 220lbs
Los Angeles, CA - Manual Arts High School class of 2007

Laron is rolling in his Senior season with the Eagles, hitting a career high 61.7% from the field, but Laron’s biggest contribution comes on the offensive glass where he leads EWU with 87 offensive rebounds.  He trails only Cliff Ederaine in overall rebounds (187).  Laron has scored more than ten points 9 times this year and has had more than ten rebounds four times, but only once did both of those come during the same game.  When Montana State visited Reese Court on January 28, Laron had his best game of the year pulling in 14 rebounds and scoring 12 points.

Laron needs 11 blocks on the season to match his career high (28) and place himself 4th in Eastern history.  The only thing limiting Laron this season is his penchant for getting into foul trouble, he’s averaging 4.2 personal fouls a game and has fouled out 13 times and finished with 4 personal fouls 10 other times.  The foul trouble has limited him to just 23 minutes a game.

Laron put together a great two game stretch this week as he scored 26 pts, grabbed 16 rebounds and added 3 steals and 2 rebounds in two games.

From goeags.com, Coach Hayford on Griffin, “Laron plays hard and is a great rebounder.  He plays with tremendous enthusiasm and is loved by his teammates.  He has been through the Big Sky battles and knows what it takes.”
