Freshman Guard 6’4” 195lbs

Just a couple weeks ago I wrote on this blog that the Eagles would need more from their bench and specifically pointed to Parker Kelly.  Since then Kelly has had a couple of good games and a couple of invisible games, but last week when the Eagles needed someone to step up and hit a shot, Kelly answered.

The Eagles came out in the first half and promptly shot 1 of 8 from the field for the first 6 minutes of the game.  Then the true freshman took a pass from Cliff Ederaine (#42) and drained a three point shot to bring the Eagles back to within single digits.  Kelly’s shot sparked a 13-4 run during which the Eagles shot 5 of 10 from the field.  Kelly would make one more 3 in the first half going 2 of 3 for the half.  But the Eagles went into the half trailing 41-30, they needed a big spark.

Once again they found that spark in the walk-on freshman from Spokane.  Along with Cliff Colimon (#11), Kelly led the Eagles on a 12-4 run to open the second half bringing the Eagles to within 3 points.  During this run Kelly went 1 for 1, making his 3rd three point shot and finding Colimon for an assist on Colimon’s 3rd three as well.

Finally with just under 7 mnutes to go in the game, Kelly hit his fourth 3 point shot of the game and sparked a 10-5 run for the Eagles during which Kelly hit is 5th three pointer.  Kelly would finish the game with a career high 17 points as well as one rebound and one assist.  Because he was able to stay out of foul trouble throughout the game it was Kelly who Coach Hayford looked to in the final minutes to keep Weber State from killing the clock.

Although the Eagles did not end up with a win, the incredible poise with which Kelly played helped keep them in contention all the way to the final whistle.
