EWU Eagles @ UNC Bears: Halftime Report

The Eastern Washington Eagles came out looking aggressive, tough and downright mean.  They were working the offensive boards with vigor and after a quick time out they locked up the interior defensively and continually harassed and harangued the Bears preventing them from settling into any kind of rhythm.  EWU not only managed to get the Bears into Foul trouble early, they also capitalized on their free throws.  The Bears began using a shifting, crossing offensive attack that began to tell in open looks from around the paint in the final 7 minutes of the half.  Coach Hayford needs to get his team to calm down on defense.

The telling stats of the first half, the Eagles forced the Bears into 11 t/o’s and corralled 9 offensive rebounds.  Eastern’s physical style lead to a lot of fouls being called on both sides.  The Bears failed to make them pay by making their free throws count.  The Eagles were sharp for their own free throws and really nailed some key three point shots to go into the half up 37-36.
